Jennifer Whitmer
Impromptu Millinery
Full Day Workshop
Kit Fee: $40.00

Have you longed to make a hat but haven’t known where to begin? This is the class I wish I’d had as a new millinery student, not only to learn the basics but how to go forward and learn more. Come and enjoy this accessible, inspiring hat making class where you can discover the pleasure of designing and constructing a unique hat, the one only you can make. Using your own head as a hat block you will learn to hand-shape and sew in a free-form style finely woven straw using pleats, folds and wiring techniques, as well as how to size a head band, and wire a brim. Construction will include hand-sewing and light machine sewing.
We will trim our hats with simple handmade silk organza flowers and a hatband. There will be color choices available so all the hats and flowers will be unique.
This is a great opportunity to bring your own millinery treasures if you have them – flowers, veiling, hat pins, big showy buttons, feathers, ribbon etc. If you are entirely new to hat making, not to worry. There will be plenty for you to play with in class.
Kit includes:
1 straw hat body
brim wire
grosgrain

silk organza
instructional handout (includes suppliers, how to books, movies, blogs, continuing education)
